CPD

Is the Society ready for the digital age?

From Mr M. D. Burdon, MRPharmS

The country’s largest electrical retailer announced that it was phasing out video recorders from its stores. Apparently, DVD players are outselling VCRs by a ratio of 40 to one and the retailer has decided to “fully embrace the digital age”.

When will the Society do likewise and issue its continuing professional development material on DVD?

Mark Burdon
Chester-le-Street, Durham

PETER WILSON, head of post-registration, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, replies:

The Society is no longer using video for distribution of CPD information now that the distribution of CPD packs in Great Britain is complete. We have no immediate plans to use DVD but a CD-ROM will be available in the near future which will enable pharmacists to make CPD records on computer without logging into the CPD website. These records can be transferred to the CPD website when it is convenient to the user. The software will be accompanied by a tutorial on the same CD-ROM.
