Pharmaceutical industry sees new contract as important

Pharmaceutical industry executives think the new community pharmacy contract is important to the way their organisation approaches the NHS, according to preliminary results from a survey of 100 pharmaceutical professionals at director-level and above. Of those surveyed, 55 per cent see the contract as “very important” and another 40 per cent see it as “important”. The survey was conducted by Health Direction, a health care business intelligence company. The final report will be available from its website in January 2005 (www.health-direction.co.uk).

Respondents also judged “changes in how the NHS operates” as an important influence on the pharmaceutical market. Just over 80 per cent reported that such changes had the most impact in the pharmaceutical market over the past year and only 10 per cent said that loss of confidence in the industry had the most impact.
