Ibuprofen for premature infants

Ibuprofen, given as prophylaxis to premature infants, reduces the need for surgical closure of the ductus arteriosus, say researchers. However, it does not reduce mortality or morbidity so should not be used in preference to early curative ibuprofen, they add (Lancet 2004;364:1939).
