Fifth of pharmacists declare themselves “non-practising”
One-fifth of those pharmacists who have so far paid next year’s membership fee of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society have elected to become “non-practising” pharmacists.
In the first year in which pharmacists have to declare themselves as “practising” or “non-practising”,
the number of members who had returned their retention fee forms by the
start of January was substantially higher than in previous years.
On 4 January, 10,798 members — roughly one-quarter of the profession — had
paid the retention fee. Of these, 8,661 declared themselves as “practising” and
2,137 as “non-practising”. Asked how many members had chosen
to resign from the register, a Society spokeswoman said that these figures
are not yet available.
For those who are remaining on the register, the new online payment system
has proved popular. Andrew Gardner, head of registration, commented: “I
am particularly pleased that over 70 per cent of those payments received
have been made online.” |
