Sir Roger Jones

Roger Jones, OBE, a pharmacist from Wales has been knighted in the 2005 New Year honours list.

Sir Roger received the award for services to business and training in Wales, having been chairman of the Welsh training and enterprise councils from 1992 to 2002 and chairman of the Welsh Development Agency since 2002. He was made OBE in 1996 for services to the pharmaceutical industry.

A graduate of the Welsh school of pharmacy, Sir Roger registered as a pharmacist in 1967 and gained a master’s degree in economics at Bradford university. He subsequently worked for the Wellcome Foundation until 1982, after which he set up his own company, Penn Pharmaceuticals. He sold Penn Pharmaceuticals in 1999.
