Society appoints lead for long-term conditions and public health

A pharmacist, Robert Clayton, has been appointed lead for long-term conditions and public health within the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Directorate of Practice and Quality Improvement.

In this newly created role Mr Clayton will be responsible for ensuring that the Society is prepared for the implementation of the new pharmacy contract and will advise on how pharmacy can deliver on the Department of Health’s public health White Paper, “Choosing health: making healthier choices easier”.

In his previous career Mr Clayton has worked at the Department of Health in the pharmacy and prescriptions branch, as an area/district pharmaceutical officer and as a prescribing adviser in several regional health authorities and most recently as a community pharmacy manager.

Welcoming the appointment, David Pruce, Director of Practice and Quality Improvement, said: “The management of long-term conditions and improving public health is a high priority for all GB government health departments. This new role will be pivotal in ensuring that the Society contributes to decision-making around making the best use of the pharmacy workforce and the development of initiatives that will shape the future of pharmacy.”
