Slimming clubs

Slimming

Patients should be encouraged to join

From Mrs S. B. E. Millen, MRPharmS

Congratulations to Hilary Davies (PJ, 1/8 January, p17) on her huge weight loss. I, too, have battled with weight for numerous years and, finally, with the support of my local slimming club, have managed to shed the excess pounds.

I now make a point of offering what support I can to every patient with a prescription for anti-obesity medication (or nicotine replacement therapy) because I understand just how difficult it can be to lose a large amount of weight. However the greatest support for these patients, I believe, exists through slimming clubs and patients should be encouraged to join. I am delighted that GPs can now refer direct to slimming clubs.

Sharron Millen
