New contract

Contract 2005

Are we mugs?

From Mr M. C. Shah, MRPharmS

There was an interesting article in The Times (14 December 2004) about the new general medical services contract. The majority of GPs surveyed consider themselves as “suckers” in accepting the new contract. A survey by Pulse found 83 per cent say they have to work harder under the new contract. They felt let down by their negotiators. I wonder if we would call ourselves mugs by endorsing the new pharmacy contract, which has been so unclear about how to work out where one will stand. Like our GP colleagues, I can envisage working harder for new monies.
