Hepatitis B treatment

Peginterferon alfa-2b is an effective and well tolerated treatment for chronic hepatitis B, say researchers. What is more, they found that addition of the antiretroviral agent lamivudine does not improve outcomes for patients. The researchers also report that a patient’s hepatitis B virus genotype is an important predictor of response to peginterferon (Lancet 2005;365:123).
