Asda taken to task over analgesic promotions

Asda has agreed not to make further volume-based promotional offers on analgesic products following a complaint made to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

The company had offered Lemsip Max Sinus capsules and Lemsip Max Cold and Flu capsules under an “any two for £4” promotion. Volume-based offers such as “any two for …”, “buy one get one free” or “buy one get second half price” are strongly discouraged by the MHRA since they may lead to unnecessary purchases of medicines.

Outcomes of recent investigations into advertising complaints are available on the MHRA website (www.mhra.gov.uk).
