Tribute

Allen In a tribute to the late John Bland Allen, MARK HEALEY writes:

My wife Lisa and I were filled with great sadness on hearing that Jack Allen had lost his long battle against his illness.

I first worked for Jack in 1975 while at school. It was from that Saturday job that he inspired me to pursue my career in pharmacy, for which I will be forever grateful. It seems ironic that as the profession embarks on a new NHS contract which will forever change the way we deliver, I am left thinking that Jack had been practising pharmacy in the same way since he opened his Paignton pharmacy in the 1970s. The profession of pharmacy has lost a true ambassador, and community pharmacy in Torbay has never been quite the same since his retirement.

I feel privileged to have had Jack as a mentor and good friend, and I shall miss his wisdom and humour. My family, over the years, have become almost part of Jack’s family and our love goes out to his wife June and daughters Tricia and Rosemary and their families.
