Consultation to revamp milk voucher scheme launched
A consultation on an initiative to replace the current Welfare Food Scheme has been launched by the Department of Health.
Under the proposed “Healthy
start” initiative pregnant women,
breastfeeding mothers and young children in low income families will
receive fixed value vouchers that they will be able to exchange for fruit
and vegetables as well as milk and infant formula. Vouchers will be able
to be used in a wide range of shops and pharmacies.
The new scheme is being introduced initially in Devon and Cornwall. The
consultation runs until 26 April. |
