Nicotine exacerbates Alzheimer’s

Chronic nicotine administration may increase the brain abnormalities that occur in Alzheimer’s disease.

Researchers found that administering nicotine to mouse models of the disease increased the phosphorylation and aggregation of tau proteins in the brain (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences early online edition).
