Viagra improves cardiac function

Sildenafil (Viagra) could be used to treat hypertrophic heart disease.

A study has shown that inhibition of phosphodiesterase 5 prevents excess muscle growth and improves cardiac function in mouse hearts exposed to pressure overload (Nature Medicine 2005;11:214).
