Over 40,000 pharmacists on 2005 register
More than 40,000 members of the Society have now registered for 2005 — 80 per cent more than at this time in 2004.
Of 40,534 members who have so far renewed their membership (equivalent
to 85 per cent of the total membership in 2004), 35,003 have registered
as practising and 5,531 as non-practising. Just over 2,000 members have
so far retired from the register (4 per cent of the 2004 register), compared
with 784 (1.5 per cent of the total) who retired from the register in
2004). Most retirements have come from pharmacists over 60. In addition,
more than 10,200 premises retention fees (85 per cent) have been paid.
Philip Green, the Society’s Deputy Secretary and Registrar and
Director of Education and Registration, said: “This year, we have
brought the retention fee process back in-house and have completely overhauled
our processes and ways of working. This, along with the new online payment
method, which so far 13,700 pharmacists have used to pay their fee, has
meant that members have enjoyed a much higher standard of service.”
The Society says that pharmacists who had not registered by 31 January
have now received a statutory notice. There will be no further reminders.
At its 5 April meeting, the Council will be asked to approve the removal
from the register of the names of those who have not paid the fee or
given notification of retirement from the register.
