Government secondment for secretary of Welsh Executive

Cath O’Brien, secretary to the Welsh Executive of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, has begun a five-month secondment to the Welsh Assembly Government.

Ms O’Brien, who has been with the Society for just over two years, is working in the Community, Primary Care and Health Services Policy division of the Health and Social Care Directorate at the Welsh Assembly Government. She will be responsible for supporting the Chronic Disease and Community Health Branch in developing care pathways for sufferers of chronic illnesses.

Although her work will cover the whole spectrum of chronic disease management it will provide an opportunity to raise the profile of the role of pharmacy.

During her secondment, Clive Jones, previously of the National Public Health Service, will join the Welsh Executive team for two days a week to give strategic direction and Jocelyn Parkes, development officer, will increase her hours from part-time to full-time and take on more responsibilities.

Mair Davies, chairman of the Welsh Executive, said: “The Society’s programme of work in Wales will continue and Jocelyn will provide continuity for this. I am also pleased to welcome Clive Jones on to the team who brings with him valuable experience.”
