Diabetes screening service launched across Durham Dales

A pharmacy-based diabetes screening service is set to get under way across Durham Dales Primary Care Trust this month.

The project has been funded and developed by Pharmacy Alliance, the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit and the pharmacy team at the PCT.

The screening service, to be offered by six pharmacies, will identify and support at-risk patients.

A spokesman for the PCT said: “Pharmacists participating in the service will be responsible for briefing their local GP practice, since any patient with a screening result which has cause for concern will be referred to that practice for diagnostic testing.”
