More than 260 technicians have joined Society’s voluntary register
The number of pharmacy technicians admitted to the Register of Pharmacy Technicians since it opened on 1 January has reached 261.
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has expressed its pleasure at the level
of interest
in voluntary registration.
Janet Flint, the Society’s head of support staff regulation, said: “The
Society is delighted that there has been such a high level of interest
in the voluntary register and is continuing to send out packs to technicians
who would like to register.”
As part of its continuing research into registration issues, the Society
is collecting information from pharmacists who originally trained as
pharmacy technicians. Ms Flint said: “The Society would be interested
to hear from pharmacists who also hold a pharmacy technician qualification.
Please contact the Society’s support staff section with brief details.”
Following confirmation of their registration with the Society, all registered
pharmacy technicians will receive a certificate of registration and a
copy of a new Society leaflet, “Information for registered pharmacy
technicians”.
They will also receive The Pharmaceutical Journal weekly as part of their
registration package. In the month following their registration, practising
pharmacy technicians will be sent a continuing professional development
pack containing full details of the Society’s CPD framework.
The Society’s Council at its meeting in February also approved
in interim procedures for appeals
against decisions not to enter the
name of a person in the voluntary register of pharmacy technicians (PJ,
12 February, p186). The procedure will be used until the pharmacy Order
under Section 60 of the Health Act 1999 comes into force.
