Inquiry is opened into Shipman case pharmacist

The pharmacist criticised during the Shipman inquiry for not noticing the GP’s abnormal prescribing of diamorphine appeared before the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Statutory Committee this week.

The inquiry arose from a complaint by the Society’s Council alleging misconduct by Ghislaine Brant, who works in a pharmacy next door to the premises where Harold Shipman had his solo GP practice.

The inquiry attracted interest from the national news media. It was held on Monday and Tuesday and then adjourned to Thursday, after The Journal went to press.
