Disability provision in pharmacy services must be on a case-by-case basis
The level of “reasonable adjustment” necessary to enable someone with a disability to use a pharmacy service must be made on a individual basis, Sue Sharpe, chief executive of the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee, said at the local
pharmaceutical committees’ conference.
This was the reason the Department of Health had decided to base disability
support on an allowance, rather than a fee for service basis, Mrs Sharpe
explained.
“In determining what is reasonable, consideration needs to be given
to the individual circumstances of the patient and the pharmacy, and
a judgement
made by the service provider. As such, it is not appropriate to determine
and specify the nature of ‘reasonable adjustment’ nationally,
nor to set different types of intervention or fee,” she said. |
