Big increase in preregistration training grant

The preregistration training grant will increase from £4,910 to £16,440, Sue Sharpe, chief executive of the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee said at the local pharmaceutical committees’ conference.

Pharmacy graduates are finding it increasingly difficult to get training places, employers are finding training uneconomic and new schools of pharmacy mean that more graduates will be seeking training.

The extra money will be payable monthly from 1 April and does not come from the £1.766bn negotiated for the new community pharmacy contact, but is centrally funded by the Department of Health.
