Pilot projects will record levels of violence on pharmacy premises
Details of four pilot projects involving community pharmacists that are part of a Government drive to help reduce the incidence of violence in primary care were revealed this week.
Community pharmacists in four primary care trusts are being invited to
record all
incidents of violence or threats of violence which happen at work between
4 April and 27 May.
The pilots are being run by PCTs on behalf of a national initiative set
up by the Government’s NHS
Security Management Service.
The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee is urging all community
pharmacists in the pilot areas — Hillingdon, Central Liverpool,
South and East Dorset and Kirklees — to take part in the scheme.
Incidents should be reported to the PCT which, in turn, will pass on
the results to the NHS Security Management Service so that the true incidence
of violence in community pharmacy can be assessed and also to make sure
that the reporting system works well.
If the pilots are successful there are plans to roll the initiative out
nationally. Pharmacists should be sent details about the pilot from their
PCT.
Details of the pilots were announced 10 days after health minister Rosie
Winterton said at the PSNC’s 23rd annual dinner that violence against
pharmacists and their staff was taken seriously by the Government (PDF 90K). |
