‘Introduction to pharmacy calculations’A revised and expanded second edition of a book on pharmacy calculations is now available from the Pharmaceutical Press (the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s publishing arm).

Introduction to pharmacy calculations’ — known as the “gold book” because of its cover — is aimed at pharmacy students and preregistration trainees. It provides a basic grounding in drug dosage calculations and other useful pharmaceutical calculations. Each chapter contains learning objectives, numerous worked examples, sample questions and answers. The new edition includes a new chapter on accuracy of measurements, a new appendix on performing arithmetical routines and updated worked examples.

‘Introduction to pharmacy calculations’ has been written by pharmacy teachers Judith Rees and Ian Smith, both from the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Manchester, and the late Brian Smith, who was a retired mathematics teacher in Manchester.

The 224-page paperback book costs £19.95. Orders can be placed with Pharmaceutical Press Customer Services (tel 01491 829272; fax 01491 829292; e-mail rpsgb@cabi.org) or through the Pharmaceutical Press website. The Pharmaceutical Press is to promote the book at the British Pharmaceutical Students Association annual conference in Nottingham from 19 to 26 March, when copies will be available at a special price.
