Obesity reduces life expectancy

Obesity reduces life expectancy in the US population by one-third to three-quarters of a year, researchers estimate (New England Journal of Medicine 2005; 352:1138). This could rise to two to five years in the coming decades, they say. Two-thirds of the adult US population are currently overweight or obese, a figure equalled in England.
