Only 8pc will smoke by 2050

Only 8 per cent of the population will be smokers by 2050 as more people turn to stop smoking aids, according to a report published this month by the think tank the Future Foundation. Changes in the law to create more smoke-free zones in public places mean smokers will suffer the social stigma currently associated with alcoholics and drug addicts, suggests the report, commissioned by Pharmacia, manufacturer of Nicorette.
