UniChem hospital pharmacy focus group welcomed

Hospital pharmacists working in procurement have welcomed a focus group set up by UniChem that aims to improve working relationships between the wholesaler and customers within the NHS.

Roger Miles, regional specialist procurement pharmacist for North West England, commented: “These are exciting times for pharmacy procurement. Improving the performance of the supply chain by the effective use of e-commerce, robots and short lead times, promises real benefits for pharmacy and patients. Developing good partnership relationships with key suppliers such as UniChem is essential and will underpin future developments.”

Mike Smith, non-executive chairman, UniChem Ltd and chairman of UniChem’s pharmacy consultative board, added: “These meetings are a unique forum where we can listen to hospital pharmacists and gain a real understanding of their working environment to enable us to better understand their wholesale needs.”

UniChem set up the group, which comprises 15 hospital pharmacists from around England and Wales last year. Nine pharmacists attended its first meeting in December 2004. The next meeting will be held in May.
