No election needed this year for Welsh Executive or HPG
There is to be no election this year to either the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Welsh
Executive or the Hospital
Pharmacists Group Committee because in both cases the number of pharmacists accepting nomination matched the number of vacancies (see Official Notices, p505).
The four pharmacists nominated for the four Welsh Executive places are
Rowena McArtney, Philip Parry, Alan Screen and David Temple. Mrs McArtney
and Mr Parry were both seeking re-election after completing three-year
terms of office. Mr Screen and Dr Temple both rejoin the executive after
a one-year gap. Mr Screen, who had served from three years from 2001,
was unsuccessful in last year’s election and Dr Temple, an executive
member since 1998, chose not to seek re-election last year.
Mr Screen and Dr Temple replace Colin Ranshaw and Andrea Robinson, both
of whom have served as chairman of the executive. Neither sought re-election,
but Mr Ranshaw has now been elected to the Society’s Council for
three years as its national representative for Wales.
The Hospital Pharmacists Group was seeking two members to represent England
and one to represent Scotland. The two pharmacists who accepted nomination
for England were Ray Fitzpatrick and Richard Needle. The sole pharmacist
accepting nomination for Scotland was Angela Munday.
Professor Fitzpatrick is clinical director of pharmacy for Royal Wolverhampton
Hospitals NHS Trust. He has been chairman of the Hospital Pharmacists
Group for the past year. Dr Needle is chief pharmacist at Colchester
General Hospital. He was chairman of the group from 2002 to 2004. Ms
Munday is trust chief pharmacist at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Greenock.
