Metformin could cut cancer risk in type 2 diabetes

Metformin may reduce the risk of cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes, a study published online suggests (BMJ Online First).

Researchers found that a lower proportion of patients who had cancer had received metformin compared with those who did not have cancer (36.4 per cent compared with 39.7 per cent). The data also suggested a dose-response relationship.
