Vote on new EU directiveLast week, the European Parliament voted on a single directive to replace 15 directives that govern the recognition of professional qualifications across member states, including two that apply to pharmacy (85/432/EEC and 85/433/EEC). The aim of the new directive is to simplify the existing legislation and to improve the rules that govern the freedom of a professional in one member state to practise his or her profession in another member state. Charlie McCreevy, European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, said: “With this directive, we will inaugurate a new era for professionals migrating within our internal market.” The directive must be transposed into national legislation before it becomes law in the UK. |
