AAH supports enhanced services through new scheme

Independent pharmacies wishing to win funding for enhanced services can rely on AAH for support, Mandeep Mudhar, director of marketing, AAH, announced at the AAH convention held in Portugal last week.

The company is to launch a service that will provide a team dedicated to communicating with primary care organisations (PCOs) on behalf of pharmacists.

Dr Mudhar explained that pharmacies need to be making robust proposals to PCOs that show how they will make savings or improve patient outcomes. For many pharmacists, making this type of proposal is a completely new field and they are either unsure how to go about it or do not have time to prepare the material, he added.

The AAH team aims to target PCOs aggressively. Pharmacists who would rather wait for PCOs to kick start essential services will be waiting for a long time, Dr Mudhar said. “We see some but not all local pharmacy bodies talking to PCOs. What we do not see is either a consistent dialogue or proposition being made to PCOs, or PCOs agreeing to any robust, long-term services through pharmacy,” he added.

The new scheme will also provide training to help pharmacies implement any enhanced services that are commissioned.

Other resources recently launched by AAH are a guide to the new pharmacy contract for England and Wales and a distance-learning programme on clinical governance (PJ, 30 April, p511).
