DTB challenges first-line use of certain anti-hypertensives
First-line use of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin-II receptor antagonists in patients with type 2 diabetes who also have microalbuminuria has been called into question by the Drug
and Therapeutics Bulletin.
DTB suggests there is only limited evidence to support this
approach, pointing out that most patients with type 2 diabetes and
high blood pressure
will require combination drug treatment. “This will usually include
an ACE inhibitor or angiotensin-II receptor antagonist,” the review
concludes (2005;43:41).
Hypnotherapy The June issue of DTB also considers the
limitations of hypnotherapy for gastrointestinal disorders (ibid,
p45).
