Reciprocity

Fresh insight into our practice

From Mr N. C. Henderson, MRPharmS, and Mrs K. M. Stott, MRPharmS

As pharmacists registered and practising in Britain we would like to add our voices to those calling for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to reconsider its unilateral ending of the reciprocal arrangements that allow New Zealand and Australian pharmacists to work in the Britain.

An important aspect of the reciprocity which needs to be emphasised is that this arrangement helps British pharmacists to work in Australia and New Zealand. Having worked in both countries we can testify that experiencing these different pharmacy environments and health systems gave us fresh insight into our own practice and is certainly a continuing professional development experience we would recommend to others.

We hope that the pharmaceutical authorities in Australia and New Zealand do not take “retaliatory action” (David Hoyle, PJ, 28 May, p648) and that other British pharmacists will still have the experience and benefit of being able to work in those countries.

Kathy Stott
