Pharmacists recognised in Birthday Honours

Three pharmacists received honours for their services to pharmacy and the NHS in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list, published on 11 June.

Ian Mullen, chairman of Forth Valley NHS Board and former chairman of the Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council, has been made an officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services to the NHS in Scotland. Mr Mullen commented: “I believe that this award demonstrates how important it is for the profession to be properly represented by having pharmacists in senior leadership positions within the NHS. I would encourage all pharmacists to consider applying for non-executive posts within the health service. There is no better way of influencing the NHS agenda and of demonstrating to ministers and senior officials that broad-based range of skills for which pharmacists are well-known.”

Hooman Ghalamkari, proprietor of DG Pharmacy Health and Mobility Centre, has been awarded an MBE for his services to pharmacy in Worcester and Kirit Patel, chairman of the Day Lewis Group, has been awarded an MBE for his services to pharmacy in the South of England.
