New guides to practice research and medicines management
A systematic guide to pharmacy practice research projects and a new book on medicines management are now available from the Pharmaceutical Press (the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s publishing arm).
‘Conducting your pharmacy practice research project’ considers
the stages of the research process from initial preparation and planning
and covers design, sample selection, recruitment of participants, data
collection, data processing and analysis and writing up and disseminating
the findings.
The book is intended to appeal to both undergraduate and postgraduate
pharmacy students as well as to practising pharmacists who are new to
conducting research projects.
The book has been written by Felicity Smith, professor of pharmacy practice
at the School of Pharmacy, University of London, who is a recognised
expert in pharmacy practice research and also author of ‘Research
methods in pharmacy practice’, published by Pharmaceutical Press
in 2002. The 160-page paperback book costs £15.95.
The second new
book, ‘Strategic medicines management’, written
by Martin Stephens, is intended to be a practical guide for hospital
and primary care pharmacists, focusing on the strategic elements of medicines
management.
The book covers all aspects of medicine use, including influencing policies
on the purchasing and use of medicines at an organisational level and
the prescribing, use and administration of medicines at individual patient
level. Chapters describe the concepts of strategic medicines management,
review the available evidence and suggest various ways in which the concepts
can be applied in practice.
The author is chief pharmacist at Southampton University Hospitals NHS
Trust. He is also author of ‘Hospital pharmacy”, published
by Pharmaceutical Press in 2003. The 266-page hardback book costs £34.95.
