Birdsgrove House

Save this asset for the profession

From Mr J. Illingworth, FRPharmS

I write as a pharmacist who has been on the register for 63 years and who has been to stay at Birdsgrove House in the rest and recuperation facility. I realise what an asset this facility is to the profession, an asset that I believe no other profession possesses, and one well worth saving.

According to the statement in the PJ (4 June, p686) a capital cost of about £350,000 will be required for the considerable amount of work necessary for the house to meet new legal requirements.

I feel sure that if an appeal were made to save Birdsgrove House, asking for a donation of £10, the membership would respond to save this asset for the benefit of the profession.
When Birdsgrove House was established in 1946 the Council members had the foresight to realise what a benefit it would be. Surely the current membership will realise how valuable this facility is to the profession and not allow the loss of this tremendous asset for current and future members of the Society.

Jack Illingworth
Hertford
