Beside the point

Whether or not I can distinguish principle from dogma is beside the point, as Christine Glover knows full well (PJ, 25 June, p791). However, I can think of no principle that would justify a former Council member dogmatically asserting that the Council cannot do something (namely, to promote the interests of members) when the Charter says that it can.
