Preregistration trainees to benefit from AfC changes

The Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists has reached an agreement with the Agenda for Change Job Evaluation Working Party for a band 5 profile for preregistration trainees.

Current preregistration trainees whose job matches the national profile will have a pay increase from £14,189 to £15,877, backdated to October 2004. Preregistration trainees starting in August will receive a starting salary in the range £16,389–£18,698, depending on the stage of the assimilation process at their trust. The higher figure represents the full band 5 starting salary. Preregistration trainees will also be entitled to receive an increment after six months.

The Guild expressed concern about the profile because the title — pharmacist entry level — is misleading since preregistration trainees may not use the restricted title of pharmacist.
