Hydroxyurea vs anagrelide

Essential thrombocythaemia patients treated with hydroxyurea and aspirin are less likely to have vascular events than those treated with anagrelide and aspirin. Anagrelide treatment was associated with increased arterial thrombosis, haemorrhage and transformation to myelofibrosis. Hydroxyurea was associated with increased venous thromboembolism (New England Journal of Medicine 2005;353:33).
