MAb for diabetes

Short-term treatment with a monoclonal antibody against CD3 T cells helps preserve residual beta cell function and stops insulin requirements rising for the first 18 months after diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Patients treated with the antibody suffered a moderate flu-like syndrome (New England Journal of Medicine 2005;352:2598).
