Most PCTs are making good progress on the contract

Nearly 90 per cent of primary care trusts in England are progressing well with generating the structure and activity to implement the new contract, according to research from Health Direction, a health care business intelligence company.

Health Direction found that 86 per cent of PCTs have pharmacy development groups in place, community pharmacists on their professional executive committees and medicine management committees in place.

The research also found that there was little development of community pharmacy clinical governance processes in half of PCTs and only 17 per cent of PCTs had undertaken baseline assessment and had community pharmacists engaged in clinical governance activities.

Health Direction collects information on 44 measures from all primary care organisations in the UK. Companies can use this to develop services to fill gaps.
