Short course for hepatitis C

Patients with hepatitis C virus genotype 2 or 3 infection who are treated with peginterferon alfa-2b and ribavirin and have undetectable HCV RNA after four weeks achieve high response rates with 12 weeks of therapy and do not require the standard 24 weeks, suggest researchers. The shorter regimen was associated with fewer side effects (New England Journal of Medicine 2005;352:2609).
