TributeNorman In a tribute to the late Charles Terence Norman (PJ, 2 July, p32), JOHN HUNT writes: It was with sadness that friends learned of the death of Terry Norman at the age of 70, following a period of illness. Born in South Yorkshire, and becoming a great sportsman, he graduated from Manchester University, where he was a member of the university’s athletics and rugby teams. During National Service following his graduation he served in Aden, being commissioned in the Royal Army Medical Corps — a distinction during the later years of National Service, when commissioned pharmacists were a rarity. He joined Glaxo Laboratories as a medical representative in 1960 and worked in the county of Somerset where he made a number of pharmacist friends. During that time he captained Taunton Rugby Union Football Club. He later moved to the Glaxo head office at Greenford and spent the rest of his career with the company. Terry was a big man with a big personality and a big sense of humour and was a popular figure with a generation of Glaxo pharmacists, retiring in June 1993 and taking to golf as a retirement pastime. His funeral at Askham Bryan, near York, was attended by a large gathering of family, friends and his former colleagues, who extend their sympathy to his wife Betty and the family. |
