Board changes at Pharmacy Practice Research Trust
The Pharmacy Practice Research Trust, an independent research charity established by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in 1999, has announced changes to its board. They include the appointment of Marshall Davies, a past president of the Society and a former director of Boots The
Chemists, to succeed Sir Graham Hart as chairman.
Mr Davies said: “The Pharmacy Practice Research Trust marks the
end of an era as Sir Graham vacates his role as chairman. The trust owes
him an enormous debt of gratitude for his hard work and guidance since
its inception in 1999.” The trust had evolved and developed into
an increasingly effective and robust organisation under Sir Graham’s
direction. “It will be taking his legacy forward with energy over
the coming years in the exciting and innovative programme of work already
set in motion. His unique contribution will be greatly missed.”
Sir Graham has stepped down from the board, as has Robert Maxwell. Four
new trustees have been appointed. They are Brian Edwards, Christina Funnell,
Rebecca Rosen and Baroness Tonge.
Professor Edwards is chairman of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust
and emeritus professor of health care development at the University of
Sheffield.
Ms Funnell has more than 25 years’ health sector experience, in
the charitable, public and private sectors. She is a lay member of the
Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Dr Rosen works as a fellow in health policy at the King’s Fund
and as a GP in south-east London. Her interests include chronic disease
management, new professional roles in primary care and access to specialist
care.
Baroness Tonge (Dr Jenny Tonge) was a Liberal Democrat member of Parliament
from 1997 to 2005. She is a former head of women’s services and
community health services manager for Ealing Health Authority.
Trustees who continue in post are Peter Curphey, Bryan Hartley and Kirit
Patel (all pharmacists), Lord Peston (a former lay member of the Society’s
Council) and Michael Schofield (a current lay member of Council).
