The importance of strong links between the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the British
Pharmaceutical Students Association was emphasised by the Society’s President, Hemant Patel, after a recent liaison meeting between the two organisations.
Mr Patel said: “It is vital that the Society continues to work
with young pharmacists as they are the future of the profession. The
Society must continue to support the BPSA as a branch of the Society.”
Those present at the meeting, held on 15 July and chaired by Mr Patel,
included BPSA president James Wood and secretary general Gautam Paul
on their last day in those posts. On the following day, Mr Paul, who
has been secretary general since 2003, was elected to succeed Mr Wood
as president.
Commenting on the change of BPSA president, Mr Patel said that Mr Wood
had worked hard over the past year with a number of notable successes
including strengthening the relationship between the BPSA and the Society
and also that between pharmacy students and the BPSA.
Mr Patel added that he would like to thank Mr Wood for his hard work
and look forward to working with Mr Paul to build on the successes of
the past year.
Mr Paul said: “In the coming year I hope to continue our engagement
with the Society and build upon the strong foundations. We will continue
to represent our members’ concerns and strengthen our existing
portfolio of service and events.”
