Birdsgrove House

Jewel in the Society’s crown

From Mrs M. I. Savage, MRPharmS

I wish to add my voice to those of other pharmacists who do not want the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to relinquish Birdsgrove House. It would be a monumental tragedy if we were to lose it. Birdsgrove House is the jewel in the Society’s crown — a priceless irreplaceable treasure — the envy of other professions.

We cannot throw away the vision of our fellow pharmacists who thought of caring for others; it would be an insult. I have been fortunate to experience this haven of peace and tranquillity set in beautiful surroundings and to receive TLC from the loyal staff who have been there many years. I would have willingly paid more for my visit, to ensure the future of the house.

Furthermore, the house has been endowed with generous donations and gifts from many individuals and branches, and there are numerous reminders of the way such a lot of us worked. These cannot just be tossed aside.

Today’s young pharmacists may not feel the need for recuperation, but they will be old one day and come to appreciate the benefits. Their workload is becoming more stressful as greater demands for excellence are placed on them. We must find a way to keep this asset for their future use.

We are a caring profession. Let us show how much we care about each other and Birdsgrove House. I fell in love with Birdsgrove House the first time I saw it.

Margaret Savage
