Modafinil for sleep disorder

Modafinil is of some value in treating shift-work sleep disorder but does not restore sleepiness to normal levels (New England Journal of Medicine 2005;353:476). In 209 patients modafinil 200mg taken before a night shift improved symptoms of sleepiness as well as objective measures of sleep propensity and performance compared with placebo.
