National boards

Members should give wholehearted support

From Mr N. L. Wood, FRPharmS

Since deciding to step down from the Council earlier this year, I have not commented upon any Royal Pharmaceutical Society issues that have arisen subsequently. However, I must express my delight that Council has agreed to establish the three national boards recommended by the Devolution Review Group, chaired by Lord Fraser.

This wise and far-reaching decision sets the final seal on the members’ wishes, as expressed in the special general meeting of 2003, which included a resolution to have boards within the Society to address professional matters. Additionally, these proposals neatly deal with the challenges of devolution.

While there will inevitably be some additional expense incurred by the proposed arrangements, I do hope that it will be acknowledged that the new Council is now fulfilling the expressed wish of the members.

I hope that all members will give this initiative their wholehearted support.

Nicholas L. Wood
Past President
Royal Pharmaceutical Society
