Guidance issued on declaring dispensing process hours

In order to make it easier for contractors in England and Wales to fill in details of dispensing staff on the FP34C submission form, the Department of Health and the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee last week issued a statement explaining the dispensing staff declaration.

From October, pharmacies will need to declare the total number of hours staff spend supporting the dispensing process in an average week. This can include pharmacists, technicians, assistants and medicines counter assistants, although only the number of hours spent supporting the dispensing process may be counted. Staff away on annual leave or off sick can be included in the declaration, as can vacant posts for which a pharmacy is actively seeking a replacement.

During the transition period for the new community pharmacy contract, all pharmacies will receive the practice payment related to the number of prescriptions that they have dispensed. From 1 October, pharmacies that have staffing levels below the minimum set out in Part VIA of the Drug Tariff for the number of items dispensed will only receive the level of the practice payment corresponding to their actual level of staffing.
