Council to consider widening entry to pharmacy education

The Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society is to consider a proposal that it should seek to widen the entry gate to pharmacy education and increase the opportunities for part-time learning and accreditation of prior experiential learning. The proposal is one of 17 recommendations made in the report of an expert advisory group on competencies of the future pharmacy workforce, which was informed by the views of a wider reference group.

Receiving the report at the August Council meeting, the Council agreed to remit it to the Society’s working group on the overall structure, content and delivery of pharmacy education and training, which is charged with proposing a work programme to the Council in December.

Other recommendations in the report include carrying out research to help synthesise the “golden core” — the essence of what it is to be a pharmacist.
