Call for research into children's medicines
Proposals for research into medicines for children are being sought by the Health Technology Assessment programme (see pA7).
The HTA programme is working with the Medicines for Children Research
Network to commission phase III and exploratory studies and methodological
research in children aged up to 18 years.
Commenting on the call, Ian Wong, director of the Centre for Paediatric
Pharmacy Research, based at the University of London School of Pharmacy,
said: “This is an extremely important development and demonstrates
the joined-up thinking of the Department of Health. On one hand the DoH
is setting up the Medicines for Children Research Network to build the
infrastructure for clinical research, on the other, the DoH HTA will
fund high quality research proposals. In doing so, this will develop
the UK research capacity in medicines for children.”
Ideas for research studies should be sent to the National Coordinating Centre for Health Technology Assessment before 19 October. Details of
